Vanessa has been in invited to deliver the online “Leading Thinkers Series” at the Philosophy, Art and Critical Thought Division of the European Graduate School in Switzerland with a course on “Nietzsche, a Thinker of our Time”.

Nietzsche, a thinker of our time

Nietzsche coined the term “untimely (unzeitgemäß)” to describe the essence of his critical philosophy. He is the “untimely” philosopher par excellence and paradoxically, this is why his critique of Western philosophies, societies, and cultures remains relevant and continues to have currency today. This course will offer a selective reading of his texts and discuss the relevance of his philosophy for some of the most influential debates in 20 th and 21st-century philosophy.

My programme features many contemporary thinkers including Theodor Adorno, Max Horkheimer, Hannah Arendt, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Giorgio Agamben, John Rawls, Stanely Cavell, among other and their engagement with Nietzsche’s philosophy. I have the pleasure of working with an international group of students, graduates and academics with a background in a wide range of disciplines and practices in the creative arts, humanities and social sciences.
